Digital signage questions from UK retailers, restaurants and workplaces

Frequently asked questions
What is digital signage and how does it work?
Digital signage is a network of screens — menu boards, retail displays, totems or kiosks — controlled from one cloud dashboard. You upload content, assign it to screens or groups, schedule it by day and hour, and each player pulls the latest playlist over the internet. AlbuSign screens keep playing from local cache if the connection drops.
How much does digital signage software cost in the UK?
Digital signage is usually priced per screen per month for the software licence, plus a one-off cost for media players, displays, mounting and installation. The total depends on screen count, size, indoor or outdoor use and whether you need integrations. We quote each project individually — send us your screen list and we come back with a written breakdown.
Do you supply the screens as well as the software?
Yes. We can supply commercial-grade displays, totems, kiosks and media players alongside the AlbuSign platform, or run our software on hardware you already own. Consumer TVs are usually not recommended for all-day retail use.
What are electronic shelf labels (ESL) and do they work with digital signage?
Electronic shelf labels are battery-powered e-paper price tags on the shelf edge. They receive prices over a low-power wireless network, so a price change in your system reaches every label in minutes. AlbuSign manages screens and ESL from the same dashboard, so promotions on screen and prices on shelf always match.
Can I manage screens in several branches or cities?
Yes. Screens can be grouped by branch, region, format or brand, and content can be published to one group, several groups or the whole estate. Branch managers can be given permission to edit only their own screens.
What happens if a screen loses internet connection?
Each player stores its current playlist locally and keeps playing. When the connection returns, the player syncs any content changes and reports its status to the dashboard.
Do you install and support screens in the UK?
We work with UK clients from our London base in Brentford and support installation, configuration and ongoing content management. Tell us the sites and screen types and we will confirm coverage and timescales in writing.
How long does a digital signage rollout take?
A single-site install with a handful of screens is usually live within a couple of weeks of hardware arriving. Multi-site rollouts normally start with a pilot branch, then repeat the approved template across the estate.
Can I show live data, menus or social feeds on screen?
Yes. Playlists can mix video, images, menu and price templates, web pages, live feeds and scheduled campaigns. Menu boards can be driven from your price list so a single update reaches every branch.
Is digital signage suitable for restaurants, retail and offices?
All three. Restaurants and cafés use digital menu boards and promo screens, retailers use window displays, totems and electronic shelf labels, and workplaces use internal communication and meeting-room screens.
